The Best Treadmill Workouts

Strength training for Spartan Race

What you need to know about treadmill workouts.

In general, the winter time is f*cking rough.

Most of us deal with low temperatures, high winds, and limited daylight.

Basically, the winter sucks.

But you have goals, so you need to keep training.

The right gear can make or break your winter months, but someday it’s just not possible to get outside. So it’s the treadmill.

The treadmill was invented during the height of the Roman empire. Initially, it was attached to a crane and power by people walking. This looked more like a hampers wheel and helped people lift heavy sh*t.

Then in the 1800s, we used treadmills as a way to generate power. Horses and dogs would run to power mills and churns on the farm.

Then prisoners were slapped on the treadmill as a way for them to work and contribute to pump water or grind corn or whatever people did in the 1800s.

Surprising that is no longer allowed.

Then in the 1950s, a cardiologist named Robert Bruce used the treadmill to diagnose and monitor heart conditions.

We still use the Bruce Protocol today. That’s pretty dope.

Then in the ’60s and ’70s, two dudes popularized the use of treadmills as a fitness apparatus during the jogging boom.

So we really haven’t had the treadmill for that long.

But it doesn’t take longer than 5 minutes to hate the treadmill.

They are mindless and boring. So much of running is the freedom and the feel of the sun on your skin, and the wind in your face, and the smell of the grass…I miss summer.

But the thing is, they work.

You will get better by running on a treadmill, and they will help you prep for your next race.

But the problem is the mindset. We hate this thing.

So the best way to take on the treadmill is to take on your thoughts. Shifting your perspective from, “I hate that I have to run on this thing.” to “I get to run on a treadmill to improve my health and fitness.”

It sounds (and is) corny, but it wasn’t for the treadmill we would be cooped up inside losing our damn minds.

So I would like to thank all the treadmill around the world.
