Why it’s okay to be extreme
I like “lots”.
I eat lots, I run lots, I drink (regrettably) lots.
This is why I don’t pick up hobbies.
I’ll inevitably dedicate too much time to whatever it is.
I will practice, compete, buy equipment, do research, and usually invest in some kind of education.
Whatever I do, I want to do it right. Because, if not, why do it at all?
I always thought this was a negative in my personality. It’s how I get addicted and obsessive with things.
And balance is the key to life, right?
But I don’t practice balance very well.
Then I realized balance is BS.
People who want balance want to be comfortable.
I don’t want to be comfortable.
And you as a runner definitely don’t want to be comfortable.
You don’t want balance you want extreme- like pushing your body further and faster than you thought possible.
To hell with balance.
But balance is a real problem when it comes to training.
There are a lot of elements to running and we want to be good at them all. We need to do speed, pace work, hills, nutrition planning, strength at the gym, etc, etc.
It’s a struggle to make everything fit. But you are motivated to get better so you will try your damnedest.
To truly move the needle you need to focus on one thing. You need to learn the one thing that will make you better.
But we all have a different “one thing”. And it makes training is confusing.
I can’t tell you which thing will help you the most in this email.
But I can tell you that balance does not work; a personalized program is what will make you faster.
And this is where we can help.
We are taking on a few athletes who want to train hard and get faster with the help of one on one coaching. Hit me back with a reply and tell me what races you have coming up and we can see if I can help.
Or if you just want more info you can learn more about coaching here.
